Spring 2025

About Us

Free Grocery Store is a free food pantry that runs a monthly in-person and delivery food pantry. We’ve been distributing food since 2020! We are an all volunteer-run operation, and rely on our community to make our pantries possible. Food is a human right, and we believe our community should have access to fresh, delicious food all the time.

Get Involved

Want to help us continue providing free food to our community? Volunteer with us! Help us run our food pantries, translate our media into different languages, find different food sources, and whatever else you might be interested in! Visit GNVFGS.Carrd.co to fill out our volunteer form or email us at info@gnvfgs.org to introduce yourself.

Food Pantry Updates

In-Person Pantry

The easiest way to get food is to go to our in-person pantry on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Civic Media Center (433. S. Main St). Sign-up starts at 2 p.m. Pantry opens at 3:30 p.m. You can choose your own food according to your needs. At times we may have limits due to supply. No ID, proof-of-need, or appointment required.

Upcoming pantry dates:

March 11

April 8

May 13

Delivery Pantry

We deliver food monthly to households who can’t get to our in-person pantry due to disability or lack of transportation. Beginning in 2025, Free Grocery Store will offer a multiple-month grocery delivery service, rather than a monthly sign up. Our first delivery season will run from March-May, meaning people will receive a delivery in March, April and May. Our next sign-up period will tentatively begin in June. This date may change due to the unpredictable nature of weather in Florida.

Please support other groups beyond Free Grocery Store that are providing free resources for our community!

Food Not Bombs: Serving tasty free vegan meals Fridays at 6:30 pm downtown. For a world without hunger, homelessness or cops. Follow on Instagram: @GainesvilleFoodNotBombs

Free Store: Created with those most marginalized in mind, but all are welcome. Once a month (3rd Saturday of every month), hosting a “pop-up” store where everything is free at the Civic Media Center. Follow on Instagram: @GNV_FreeStore

Books to Prisoners: Serving all incarcerated folks in FL. Packing books 1st & 3rd Tuesdays, 6-7:30pm at the Civic Media Center. Follow on Instagram: @GNVBooks2Prisoners

Free Fruit Edición 4

Primavera 2025

Involucrese

¿Quiere ayudarnos a proveer alimentos gratis a nuestra comunidad?

Earlier this year, we successfully piloted mobile pantry distributions in Holly Heights.

Free Grocery Store will be taking time off from July 3 to 16 for some much needed rest and relaxation! Our delivery service, in-person pantry, and waitlist will not be operating during this time. We’ll be delivering as usual on June 21 and June 28. After the break, your deliveries will resume according to this schedule:

“A” area: July 19 & every two weeks after

Please contact us if you have questions!

Who we are

You probably know us as your Tuesday box of food, but we wanted to introduce ourselves more formally, what we’re about, and what motivates us.

We’re a 2-year-old volunteer mutual aid operation aiming to end food insecurity in Gainesville. We currently serve about 200 households.

We stand against a system that prioritizes profit over our health and well-being. We believe in the beauty of food and that it should be accessible, healthful, and culturally relevant for all. We’re set on building a food system owned and con-trolled by the community it serves. We’re breaking down barriers to accessing the food we all deserve.

Happenings

Here are some opportunities to collaborate and get to know us better:

Gardening

You may have received produce grown at our community garden plot. If you’re interested in learning how to grow your own food, we meet every Sunday at McRorie Community Garden to plan, plant and harvest. We’d love to have you out! No experience needed.

615 SE 4th Ave, 9 am.

Retreat

We’ll be gathering on July 16 to plan our future, coordinate new projects and get feedback from our volunteers and recipients. We’ll send out more details as we have them.

Mobile pantry

We’re setting up distributions across Gainesville where we give out food within neighbor-hoods. We’ll send you info if our next mobile distribution is near you!
